The suggestion for allotments came from the Chair of the Entertainments' Committee and was enthusiastically taken up by a number of residents. Although residents of the bungalows usually have their own small garden, some keen gardeners wanted to be able to grow their own fruit and vegetables. It also offered residents of the flats, who do not have their own gardens, the opportunity to do the same.
Work began on the allotments in June 2024 and they were up and running by July.
The residents set to work enthusiastically and the fruits of their labours were soon evident.
Since then a variety of produce has been successfully grown, including tomatoes, cucumbers, courgettes, potatoes, onions and runner beans.
